From Lab Research to Practical Training Equipment
Our lab is bridging the gap between theoretical biomechanics and the daily training environment by developing rugged, coach-friendly tools and protocols.
Translating Science into Performance
One of the biggest challenges in sports science is ensuring that high-resolution laboratory data can be understood and utilized by coaches on the water. We have shifted a significant portion of our focus toward the "Translation Phase" of research.
Key Translation Projects
- Coach Dashboard Integration: Simplified visual feedback systems that summarize complex kinematics into 3 key "Actionable Cues".
- Ruggedized Sensor Kits: Designing weather-proof enclosures for our handlebar and foot stretcher sensors for use in extreme on-water conditions.
- Standardized Testing Protocols: Creating 15-minute "Rapid Assessment" routines that coaches can run without researcher assistance.
- Injury Prevention Drills: Developing specific corrective exercises based on common mechanical flaws identified in our database.
User-Centered Design
By working closely with elite Taiwanese coaches, we've learned that "less is more" when it comes to field-based data. Our new equipment focuses on real-time haptic and auditory feedback, allowing athletes to adjust their technique mid-stroke without looking at a screen.
This approach has already seen successful implementation in the national team's preparation for upcoming international competitions, where technical consistency under fatigue is a primary focus.
Collaboration with Industry
We are currently in talks with local manufacturing partners to produce a pilot run of our proprietary force-sensing handlebar inserts, with the goal of making this technology accessible to club-level programs across Taiwan.
